HMS Argonaut Association

About

Welcome to the H.M.S. Argonaut Association website. The Association has been active for over 40 years having been set up by Fred Wood, Tom Bartlett, Pat Doubleday and Fred Vesty all crew members of the Dido class cruiser. Over the years the old guard has crossed the bar and new members have taken over the helm.

We are an all-inclusive group that works hard to support existing members and remember those who have gone before.

The Association website tells the stories of all the ships that have held the name “Argonaut” and to the best of our knowledge, everything told is as close to fact as possible.

The HMS Argonaut Association plays a vital role in maintaining the bonds forged during service on HMS Argonaut. It ensures that the memories and experiences of those who served on the ship are cherished and preserved for generations to come.

Memorial

On the 21st of May 2017 the HMS Argonaut Association proudly unveiled a memorial to all those who crossed the bar while serving onboard one of the ships to hold the name.
The HMS Argonaut Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum serves as a tribute to the crew of HMS Argonaut and commemorates their service and sacrifice.

The HMS Argonaut Memorial stands tall and proud, commanding a place of honour within the serene surroundings of the National Memorial Arboretum. The memorial is a testament to the courageous men and women who served on board HMS Argonaut and reflects their unwavering dedication to duty.

At the heart of the memorial is a beautifully sculpted bronze plaque, depicting the emblem of HMS Argonaut and engraved with the names of the crew members who lost their lives while serving on the ship. The plaque serves as a poignant reminder of their sacrifice and the lasting impact they made.

The memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum ensures that the memory of HMS Argonaut and her crew lives on, inspiring future generations to remember and appreciate the sacrifices made by those who served their country at sea. It stands as a reminder of the profound impact that individuals can make in defence of freedom and the enduring legacy they leave behind.
